Father and son's blindin' opportunity

May 2008

The son of the franchisee for Chatham is helping the family business branch out by opening a new store in Maidstone.

James Holt will manage the new Maidstone showroom of the Apollo Blinds franchise first started by his father Tony more than a decade ago.

From his Lordswood showroom Tony, along with wife Julie, has built a business which has become a leading supplier of window blinds across the Medway and spotted an opportunity to expand into Maidstone. He thought it would be an ideal challenge for his 20-year-old son to help the family firm expand.

The new showroom on St Faiths Street is behind Fremlin Walk and a stone's throw from House of Fraser and Marks & Spencer and James is looking forward to the challenge of getting the business off the ground in Maidstone.

"I've worked alongside my father and mother since I left school so I know exactly what it takes to make a success of our Apollo Blinds business," said James.

Apollo Blinds regional manager Steve Ryan described the Holts' expansion as text book.

"Tony and Julie have built a very strong Apollo Blinds business in Chatham and they have done exactly the right thing by looking to capitalise on the success of their business by expanding into a neighbouring area," said Steve.

"In James they have a son who is a very capable young man and has the drive and enthusiasm to make Apollo Blinds in Maidstone a huge success."

The Apollo Blinds store is now open in Maidstone. The address is 12 St Faiths Street, Maidstone, ME14 1LL. The new showroom is open between 9am and 5pm six days a week and the telephone number is 01622 688519.
