When it comes to doing your bit for climate change, buying sustainable homewares can be an easy switch to make. There’s been an upsurge of eco-friendly homewares in recent years, including our very own Greenscreen Sea-Tex™ eco-friendly blinds.

Greenscreen Sea-Tex™ eco-friendly blinds are spun from yarn that is made from plastic recovered from coastlines and beaches around the world.

The long-lasting high-performance roller blind fabric is also energy-efficient, filters sunlight and is fully recyclable. We have five colours in the range.

Here are four more brilliant eco-swaps for a stylish home.

Recycled plastic rugs

Similar to our Greenscreen Sea-Tex™ fabric, rugs can be woven using yarn made from recycled plastic. Each square metre of product saves over 100 plastic bottles from entering landfill or incineration in a Repreve shaggy rug.

Organic cotton bedding

Eco linen can be more than just duvets and pillows, you can also get bedspreads which can be used to cosy up on the sofa too. Look out for brands that have Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified materials.

If you prefer jersey materials, this is available too. The ethically sourced, organic cotton fibres are knitted rather than woven, which gives them a t-shirt like softness, that is warmer than percale or sateen.

FSC-certified wood furniture

The FSC system allows businesses and consumers to identify, purchase and use wood, paper and other forest products made with materials from well-managed forests and/or recycled sources.

When you see the FSC logo on a label, you can buy forest products with confidence that you are helping to ensure our forests are alive for generations to come.

Recycled Glassware

According to experts glass is the perfect circular economy material as it can be recycled again and again. Making glass from recycled glass reduces CO2 emissions and energy use. Glass recycling also reduces the need for the energy-intensive mining of lime and silica. For every ton of recycled glass, 1.2 tonnes of raw materials are preserved. Even in accounting for transport and processing, recycling saves 315kg of CO2 per ton of glass.

Apollo Blinds is at the forefront of eco-friendly window blind technology, continually adding innovative, environmentally-sound products to our collections.  In a bid to address the growing amount of waste plastic in the ocean, we now stock window blinds that are made from recovered ocean plastic. If you want to find out more and see how these blinds can look in your home, your local Apollo stockist will be happy to show you the range during an in-home visit.
