Best Blinds for Autumn

One of the most exciting things about the changing seasons is that it provides inspiration for interior updates.

The autumnal colour palette – rich ambers, burnt oranges and rustic reds –are the perfect inspiration for easy home décor updates to create a warm and comfortable sanctuary away from the inclement British weather.

Curtains – An Easy Autumn Update

Changing curtains is an easy update to transform a room and make it feel cosier in the Autumn months with a heavier fabric and deeper colours or seasonal designs. Curtains chosen for Autumn/Winter schemes are also generally lined and heavier fabrics to provide additional heat retention and blackout functionality.

A look we’re seeing more and more is the combination of sheer and lined, heavier fabric curtains combined. This gives fantastic light control.

As with all window coverings, the blackout qualities and ability to retain heat are often the key reason behind the choice of curtain fabric in different seasons. Thermal lined curtains help retain heat and make a room feel cosy for winter nights. This is particularly important for large windows.

The Ultimate Light Control With Twilight Blinds

Versatile Twilight Blinds are perfect for making the most of daylight hours whilst providing privacy.

Twilight blinds come with all the benefits of a roller blind, but within seconds allow natural light to flood into the room.  That’s without lifting the blind fully and making the room feel chilly. And there are two layers of fabric too, for even more cosiness and insulation.

Panels of solid and sheer fabrics give greater versatility over privacy and light control than other types of blinds – light, dark or somewhere in between (Twilight) can all be achieved, by adjusting the continuous loop of fabric around the bottom bar.

Warm colours and insulating Duette® blinds – the perfect autumn update

Duette® blinds provide a double whammy of warmth when chosen in autumnal shades, providing a warming glow into rooms with the added benefits of insulating properties – just perfect for this time of year.

Blinds in Autumnal shades

Designed with effective insulating properties to keep homes warm, Duette® blinds are proven to retain 46% more heat inside a room – with between 20%-50% of domestic heat loss escaping through windows, insulated Duette® blinds are a great way to keep homes snug and fuel costs down.

Blackout versions are available – perfect for shutting out gloomy winter nights – but the semi-opaque fabric option allows light to ripple through during daylight hours, whilst still conserving heat at the window.

Matt Thomas, Design Director at Apollo Blinds adds:

“Autumn is a time of transition, not only in the colours seen outside of the window but also within the home.  As well as introducing cosier textures and fabrics, homeowners often look to update interior colour palettes to those that provide warmth and sanctuary; reflecting the urge to be indoors out of the cold.”

Home Décor Colour Trends for 2019

Thursday, January 31st, 2019

Our Design Director Mike Stephen introduces the colours he expects to see adorning homes in 2019.

“This year colour in the home is both surprising and uplifting.  The experts at Dulux heralded a shift towards ‘positivity, purpose and transformation’ when they announced the inviting tone of Spiced Honey as their colour of the year for 2019.  Shortly after, Pantone followed suit, with a cheerful coral hero shade that’s set to bring warmth and happiness to homeowners.

“These confident statements from key trend forecasters mark a shift towards optimism within home décor.  And it’s translating as bold and unusual use of colour (think dark hues with energetic pops of colour) and rich, warming colourways – warmth will be present even at the colder end of the colour spectrum.”

Here are Mike’s colour predictions for 2019:

Dark vs Bright

“This colour combination is a tale of extremes – opposites will attract as vivid brights combine with dark, moody hues.

“Colours within this theme are intense and contrasting yet the overall look is harmonious,” says Mike. “Petrol blue, aubergine, black and deepest grey with a hint of warmth form dark monochromatic backgrounds, enlivened by pops of vibrant colour. Exotic jewel tones, spiced yellows and luxuriant metallics work particularly well.”

Coral and Blue

“I love Pantone’s 2019 colour of the year – it radiates warmth and vibrancy.  It’s a much-needed pick me up after an unsteady year and of course it looks brilliant on window blinds – especially when the light shines through.

That said, creating a room scheme around Living Coral is more of a challenge than with neutral shades.  For me it’s best as an accent on window blinds or key pieces within a room.

So what is the best colour match for Living Coral?

“Greys and neutrals all work well,” says Mike.  “A classic peaches and cream colour combination is effortlessly stylish but for me, coral and blue is the winning combination.  The colours mix beautifully and can be found in nature – think of the coral reefs set against the deep turquoise of the ocean.”

Warm Neutrals

Rich, warming colourways are a hot trend for 2019, when even the coolest of colours (blue and grey) carrying a warming undertone. Grey, it appears, has finally had its day, making way for caramel, taupe and butterscotch base colours.

Metallic vs Matt

Metallics offer an enduring look for homes and can be updated in 2019 when juxtaposed with matt finishes.  Textured surfaces are enhanced with metallic shine that adds to the multi-layered look.  2019’s metallics aren’t just limited to traditional golds, silver, brass and copper colourways – shimmering teal, pink and lilac will add further lustre to rooms.

New Twilight blinds

Autumn/winter means shorter days and cosying up indoors when the weather turns cold.  So, wouldn’t it be great if there was a versatile window blind that could make the most of the winter sunshine and keep rooms snug and warm against the elements?

Well there is! Our Twilight blinds come with all the benefits of a roller blind, but within seconds allow natural light to flood into the room.  That’s without lifting the blind fully and making the room feel chilly.

And there are two layers of fabric too, for even more cosiness and insulation.

Homeowners all over the UK are uncovering the benefits of these brilliant blinds.  In fact, we’ve just extended our collection of Twilight roller blinds to meet increased demand – doubling the amount of fabrics, colours and designs.

Over 140 fabrics are now available, making it the largest collection of this type of blind on the market.  There’s everything from subtle voiles to silky fabrics and textural linen looks, as well as colours to suit every mood.

Some examples (below) are gorgeous jade, paradise green, scarlet and copper – bright, on-trend shades that are the perfect pick me up on a cold winter’s day.

How do Twilight blinds work?

Panels of solid and sheer fabrics give greater versatility over privacy and light control than other types of blinds – light, dark or somewhere in between (Twilight) can all be achieved, by adjusting the continuous loop of fabric around the bottom bar.

Line up the solid fabric for total darkness and privacy.  Alternate the solid and sheer panels for privacy and cosiness while still allowing light to flood the room. Raise the blinds in the same way as a traditional roller blind for full light.

New Twilight blinds

The added bonus is that this changes the appearance of blinds too, with a striped effect or block of colour achievable according to how the panels are positioned.

They can also be motorised too – operated by remote control.  And for the thousands of people who are automating their homes with the help of a smart speaker, they can even be operated by voice control via a smart control hub.

Twilight Blinds are ideal for every room in the home:
